Thursday, October 21st 2010, 13:00 o’clock. In the Music Saloon from the Brukenthal Palace, Sibiu, 5 Piata Mare Street, the event of delivering the “Ox Cart” of Nicolae Grigorescu on loan, in order to be exhibited in the Brukenthal National Museum, took place. This painting has been purchased at an auction on September 30th 2010 by Mr. Mircea Simion Vescan, a respected businessman from the gas industry, for 155 000 Euro.

Mr. Vescan’s initiative has no precedent in the recent history of Romania, being a less common practice among the active Romanian collectors though it is part of the perfectly normal dimension in the international context”, said Ioana Cristea, Head of the Art Section in the Art Museum of Bucharest Municipality.

Mircea Vescan stated that “It’s the first time I make such a purchase; I am glad to be able to own this painting and I will make all the necessary moves for assuring that the “Ox Cart” will never leave Romania and that all the Romanians can enjoy it”.

Varujan Vosganian, Prime-Vice-president of the Romanian Writers Union and a remarkable personality of the Romanian society took part at this event as guest of honor and  proponent of the Romanian values in the world. Next to Mircea Vescan stood prof. univ. dr. Sabin Adrian Luca – General Manager of the Brukenthal National Museum, Constantin Trihenea – Sibiu’s county Prefect, Alexandru Baldea – Director of Artmark auction house and Ioana Cristea - Head of the Art Section in the Art Museum of Bucharest Municipality
